[Motivation]
인생을 살다보면 우리 자신이나 또는 다른 사림이 어떤 것에 대해 틀릴 때가 종종 있다.
  • 어떤 것에 대한 예측이라던가 (일기예보, 주식, 등등)
  • 어떤 개념에 대한 이해라던가
  • 어떤사람의 행동에 대한 원인 추측….(~ 때문에 화났을 것이다)
이렇게 헛짚은 경우에 “너 틀렸어!“라고 말하고 싶은데 영어로 어떻게 말할까?

1. 보통 강조용으로 way 와 자주 사용된다

2. (중요) “off the mark”가 형용사로 쓰일 때는 “틀리다” 이지만,
quick off the mark이라던지 slow off the mark 또는 get off the mark처럼
off the mark 가 부사로 쓰일 경우에는 다른 의미를 가진다.
quick off the mark : 빠르게 반응하다;  to be quick to act or to react to an event or situation
  • The police were quick off the mark reaching the scene of the accident.
slow off the mark : 느리게 반응하다;  to be slow to act or to react to an event or situation
  • The federal government was criticized for being slow off the mark in helping towns hit by the recent hurricane.
