MOTIVATION

모든 직업은 직업 특성상 수반되는 고통이 있다. 어떤 직업은 긴 근무시간(외과의사), 어떤 직업은 안티(연예인), 또 어떤 직업은 육체적인 고통(운동선수) 이 따른다. 어떤 분야에 처음 들어온 초짜는 이런 압박에 대해 엄청 힘들어 할 수도 있다. 그에게 “못 버틸 것 같으면 그만둬”..를 말해주고 싶은데, 영어로 어떻게 표현할까? “If you can’t handle the pressure, you should stop”이라고 표현해도 되지만… 이보다 훨씬 비주얼적이고 재미있는 표현이 있다. 이 표현은 미국 제 33대 대통령인 Harry S. Truman이 자신의 부하직원들에게 자주 썼던 표현이다. 백악관에 있다보면 은근 압박이 심할 것 같은데(국무이므로), 왠지 적절하면서도 재미있는 표현이다.
