조금 어이없는 만화이지만(^^) 1950년대부터 미국에서 유행한 문구, “Let’s run it up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes it”의 느낌을 정확하게 포착하고 있다.

FROM MOVIES
  • But you know, if they run this up the flagpole, I’ll salute. (The Simpsons)
  • Well, you were popular, and people love a good comeback story, so let me just run it up the flagpole, and I’ll see what I can do. (Save Me)
  • Ran his fed friend up the flagpole to make sure he wasn’t on the take. Turns out he’s a lovely guy. Sweetest guy on the force, really. (The Office) (someone is “on the take”는 뇌물을 받은 상태를 뜻한다)
  • Brian, I’ll definitely run those ideas up the flagpole, okay? (The League)
  • I’m ready to run it up the flagpole, but only if you’re still interested. I am. Great. Then with your permission, we’ll initiate the background check, interview friends, family, any contacts from the past ten years. (Person of Interest)

PHRASE HISTORY

double back 에서 왜 double을 쓸까?

  • I never finished the project
  • The project never got finished

“In the end, the project never saw the light of day.”
